Bicyclist dies after being hit by car

ORO VALLEY, AZ (KOLD) - A bicyclist died after being hit by a car Wednesday afternoon.

Harley Ostergaard, 84, was hit on North Rancho Vistoso Boulevard, north of Tangerine Road.  Oro Valley Police found Ostergaard critically injured.

Before Jan. 8 comes Jan. 7. Jan. 8, no doubt, will be solemn. Jan. 7 will be all about the outdoors, urban and rural, by the express wishes of Gabe Zimmerman’s family.

Jan. 7 will be set aside as Beyond Tucson: Commemorate, Celebrate, Commit. This is the inaugural event for the family’s Tucson Trails Tribute Fund, established by Zimmerman’s family after he died in the Jan. 8, 2011 shootings.

This involves about 25 events in Tucson and surrounding communities that all focus on getting people outdoors, especially to savor the region’s public lands.

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - For the 16th year, residents can recycle their Christmas trees through the City of Tucson's TreeCycle Program.

The program continues through Jan. 8. TreeCycle sites are located throughout Tucson and Oro Valley.

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - Big box retailers are making their final push before Christmas. Tucson's major malls aren't closing until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

But small, local businesses are also cashing in this season.

All along 4th Avenue, local shops are open for business, and right now, they're getting ready to ring in more than the new year.

‘Tis the season to TreeCycle!

The following is a news release from the City of Tucson Environmental Services:

For the 16th year, residents can recycle their Christmas trees through the City of Tucson’s TreeCycle Program.

The program begins on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 and continues through Sunday, January 8, 2012.  TreeCycle sites are located throughout Tucson and Oro Valley.
