'Lara' becomes newest member of bomb squad

The Oro Valley Police Department was able to have "Lara" join the ranks after it was awarded funding by the National Rifle Association, Oro Valley officials stated.

The new canine, Lara, joined the department in May.

Lara is a female Belgian Malinois, imported from Holland. She received her training and certification in Texas.

Oro Valley episode of "House Hunters" aires tonight

“House Hunters” is a HGTV show that presents a potential homebuyer with three different options they meet some or all of the amenities on the buyer’s list.

Tonight's episode, which will be shown at 8pm, features two single-family homes in Oro Valley.

Leigh Ann Ganuelas, a realtor with Kai Associates and single mother, applied for the show a year ago. According to The Explorer, filming took place last November, and then again in January.

(KOLD) - The town of Oro Valley celebrated its newly installed Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations with a unveiling ceremony Friday morning.

The town received four charging stations through a United States Department of Energy grant.

These stations are easier to use than regular gas pumps and do not require a lot of charging time.

Underground utility work closes roadway for over a week

Cortaro Farms Road/Magee Road: Thornydale Road to Oracle Road Improvement Project

Early this morning, the contractor for the Pima County Department of Transportation started extensive underground utility work on Magee Road between Shannon Road and Como Drive, Pima County Department of Transportation Director Priscilla Cornelio says.

As crews remove the south curb on the eastbound lane of Magee Road, from Shannon Road to Como Drive, there will be a temporary detour set up. Traffic will be detoured starting on Monday, July 18.

Town's procurement division receives award for 4th consecutive year

This is the fourth year in a row that Oro Valley’s procurement division has received national recognition from the National Purchasing Institute. Overall, this is the 16th annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award.

The award was presented to Procurement Administrator, Brian Garrity. The procurement division was the first single-person organization to receive this honor.

Award criteria includes the following:

  • Electronic procurement system
  • Professional certification of staff
  • Environmental purchasing practices
  • Formal procurement ethics policy
  • and 30 other award criteria...

“This is a great achievement for the Town of Oro Valley,” Garrity said.

Police officers, honor guard to present colors at MLB All-Star game

Officers from the Oro Valley Police Department, as well as members of the Golder Ranch Fire Department Honor Guard will be posting colors at the Major League Baseball All-Star game.

The posting colors ceremony will recognize the victims and families of the January 8th shooting, the Town of Oro Valley says.
