St. Philip's offers grief support series | Events
St. Philip’s In The Hills Episcopal Church is offering a new series of the grief support program Walking the Mourner’s Path®: Transforming Grief into Joyful Living, which is a Christ-centered, 8-week, non-denominational grief program. Each session is coordinated by two Mourner’s Path trained and certified facilitators as well as a member of the clergy.
Sessions are on Wednesday evenings, beginning February 20, from 5:30 until 7 p.m. The fee of $75 covers the cost of materials. Registration is a must; to register, contact MournersPath@stphilipstucson.org or Brigid at 577-7792.
Walking the Mourner's Path is a group centered series for all who share the pain of loss. The Christ-centered, non-denominational program is open to anyone who has experienced a death within the past 24-months. Participants must agree to attend 8 consecutive meetings. The 90-minute sessions employ a workbook, discussion, and prayer as an opportunity to grieve loved ones and to “transform our grief into joyful living.”
The heart of the Walking the Mourner’s Path Ministry is the grief support sessions. For 8 weeks participants meet for 90-minute sessions. Sessions consist of a series of lessons built on the stages of grieving, from denial to acceptance. The purpose is to transform grief into joyful living by offering the outstretched hand of Christ during bereavement. Walking the Mourner's Path is distinct from many other bereavement programs in that it is Christ-centered. It is not group therapy but is spiritually directed. In the 8-week program, mourners learn ways in which they may honor their loved ones, seek spiritual direction, and discover Jesus' promise of comfort. Materials offer questions for reflection and exercises that help participants define a new relationship with their loved one and to find God’s direction in their life. Participants share their experiences of how God has entered their lives and is healing their pain. They learn that they are not alone on their Mourner’s Path. Participants in previous groups have found it so helpful and inspiring that they have now undergone training to be a certified facilitator.
Walking the Mourner’s Path is centered in Scottsdale, and there are more than 100 Certified Facilitators and Facilitator Trainers located throughout the United States and abroad. For more information see www.mournerspath.com.
