Year-long improvement project on Orange Grove Road begins | News
Work began June 24 on a year-long improvement project by Pima County and its contractor Southern Arizona Paving, on Orange Grove Road.
The ‘improvement corridor’ is from Camino de la Tierra to La Cholla Blvd., with work expected to last from 12 to 14 months.
Improvements along the 1.2 mile stretch are: widening to three lanes, one lane in each direction with a dedicated center turn lane; as well as pedestrian and bicycle facilities, drainage improvements, rubberized asphalt pavement and public art. There will also be improvements to the traffic signal at Shannon Road.
Speed limits in the construction zone will be 25 mph, with lane reductions happening just west of San Joaquin at the Pegler Wash. This will be done to install a barrier wall at the box culvert. Flaggers will be on hand to direct traffic through the area.
Delays can be expected by motorists in the area, and if possible drivers are encouraged to find an alternate route while work progresses. Message boards will be in place to direct traffic and drivers are encouraged to approach the area with caution and to obey all traffic control devices.
