Plenty going on at Oro Valley Aquatic Center, even with construction | News
There is still plenty happening at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center, even while construction is still going on; pool hours have even been extended, beginning yesterday.
The pool is limited to lap swimming only though. The new hours for operation (remember, the pool is heated year round) are:
- Monday to Friday - 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.;
- Saturday – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.;
- Sunday – closed.
There are also new diving boards that will be open for public use. On December 22, the newly installed one and three meter diving boards will be available every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Oro Valley will be offering lifeguard training and re-certification to residents. For more information on classes call 229-5050. The breakdown of classes and costs follows:
- Lifeguard Training course - $150 per person, Friday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (January 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20).
- Lifeguard re-certification course - $75 per person; Saturday, February 2 – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For those interested in working at the new aquatic center, they are hiring part-time lifeguards and facility attendants. If you are interested go online to www.orovalleyaz.gov and click on ‘Job Opportunities’ at the top of the page; or call the Aquatics Manager at (520)229-5056.
Residents can also become a ‘Friend of the Pool’, by donating. Donations of $250 or more will be recognized on a plaque in the new facility. You can find out more on the ‘friends’ by going to www.orovalleyaz.gov and clicking on ‘Aquatic Center Expansion’ and then select ‘Sponsorship Opportunities.’
